Today was my 41st birthday.
Last year, turning 40 was a bit of a crisis for me, and I still shiver when I think of me at this age. I can remember my father at a younger age than I am now. Heck, I can remember Mom turning thirty!
I spent the better part of the day watching football (detailed elsewhere), and just enjoying my increasing decrepitude. 😉 This morning, however, we went sledding.
Having been brought up in the South, there weren’t a great many opportunities for sleddable snow, and an even more remote chance that those snows would come on my birthday. Here in the midwest, however, we had snow last night — just a few inches, but plenty to sled on. So, Beck, Sio and I gathered ourselves up this morning, and hit the hills. It was a blast!
A nice breakfast afterwards at Uncle Bill’s — with all of us dirty, wed and muddy from the sledding runs — and back in time for the first game.
After the games, we met the gang at Stir Crazy for a nice dinner in celebration of my birthday. As always, a bunch of fun. I had the Vietnamese Pho Bowl, and really expected it to be more…. something. It was kinda bland, with the occassional hit of hot, but no real flavor to speak of. I think I’ll go back to Chinese food!
After dinner, we all came back to the house, and played poker ’til the wee hours of the night. Sio even dealt for us. It was the perfect cap to a low-key, quiet 41st birthday for me.
