When I was growing up, Karl’s was one of those places that everyone seemed to know about. For a nice 4th of July meal, they were featuring watermelon. That’s why I love the South!

The best of the best — my favorite shots!
Project 365 : All-American Minivan
Project 365 : Point Park
To celebrate the 4th of July, I decided to immerse myself in the history of my home town. I hiked around the Chickamauga and Chattanooga NMP today, and wound up at Point Park. This was a nice visit, as I don’t think I’d ever visited here when I lived in Chattanooga.
This image is an iconic view of Moccasin Bend as seen from the cannons atop Signal Mountain.
Happy Fourth!
Today is the 4th of July — an ordinary day elsewhere in the rest of the world (well, except maybe for England), but celebrated here in the States as the anniversary of our independence. This year marks 234 years as an independent nation.
I intend to celebrate by visiting the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park today. I visited this park as a schoolkid, and thought it’d be nice on this day of historical significance to go see a chapter of our American history. I’m sure there’ll be photos later. 🙂
But speaking of photos… Ree Drummond — The Pioneer Woman — runs periodic photo contests, and the theme this week has been “America”. There are wonderful photos that have been submitted, and for the first time, one of my images was selected as daily group finalist, and now as an overall finalist. I’m thrilled to be a part of such a beautiful tapestry of iconic images of America. Check them out. They’re well worth the look.
With that, I’ll leave you with the image that’s hit the finals. Have a happy and safe fourth of July!
Project 365 : And Now for a Different Kind of Explosion
This weekend, I’m visiting my mother on The Mountain for the 4th,and all around us tonight are the sounds of fireworks and big booms. While waiting for race from Daytona to start, we heard a boom… From inside the house.
A quick search, and we found the source of the boom. A can of Diet Mountain Dew had frozen and exploded in an auxiliary fridge that has malfunctioned, keeping things way too cold.
It exploded with such force that it blew the door open, presenting us with the scene you see in this image.
Who knew that Mountain Dew was made of such explosive stuff! 🙂
