To celebrate the 4th of July, I decided to immerse myself in the history of my home town. I hiked around the Chickamauga and Chattanooga NMP today, and wound up at Point Park. This was a nice visit, as I don’t think I’d ever visited here when I lived in Chattanooga.

This weekend, I’m visiting my mother on The Mountain for the 4th,and all around us tonight are the sounds of fireworks and big booms. While waiting for race from Daytona to start, we heard a boom… From inside the house.
A quick search, and we found the source of the boom. A can of Diet Mountain Dew had frozen and exploded in an auxiliary fridge that has malfunctioned, keeping things way too cold.
It exploded with such force that it blew the door open, presenting us with the scene you see in this image.
Who knew that Mountain Dew was made of such explosive stuff! 🙂
Last weekend, I crossed fifteen years with my current employer. It’s the longest I’ve stayed anywhere in my adult life. As a memento of my time, I was given this nice timepiece. I have a thing for clocks, so this was particularly apropos!
Becky and I traveled to Kimmswick today for lunch at the Blue Owl. With the water so high, we decided to see how the bridges looked. I have a real affinity for these footbridges, and thought this treatment worked well for a bridge as old as this one, which was built in 1874.
I decided to play with IncrediBooth tonight. It’s an app on my iPhone that emulates the output from a mall photobooth. I like what it does, and suspect I’ll be playing with it more!
While driving across Kansas, I saw this sign. Being a Jeep fan, and with the optical illusion of there being no road, this seemed like a great image to grab!
Traveling through Rocky Mountain National Park, I found this vista at the Alpine Visitor Center. Despite it being early June, the park personnel were still clearing about eight feet of snow from this 11,000 foot wonderland.
While visiting the Devils Thumb trailhead in the Arapaho National Forest, I found this great little stream carrying the meltoff down the hill. The rocks at the bottom of the stream gave the water a great red color.
I was taking photos of pinecones on the forest floor, and by happy accident, had the camera set wrong, and captured this really painterly image. The camera shake added the appearance of brushstrokes in the image, which I really liked.
Visiting my in-laws in Fraser CO, I was fortunate enough to witness the Moon setting over Byers Peak. To me, it looked like a big snowball descending down to the mountain’s slope.
